Back in School!

We are finally almost back to normal here. The roads were not too bad on the way in, but the heat isn’t working in my room. However, after I fired up the computers and had a room full of kids it was just fine.

The fifth graders are going to do Fractured Fairy Tales using puppets they made in art class. Today they started work on the scripts and storyboards. I am already hearing some really good ideas!

The sixth graders are making commercials based on the CharacterPlus words of the month. They are writing the scripts in their guidance classes, then they will be filming and editing the commercials in my class. Today we were going to do a practice run using Windows Movie Maker, but we ran into technical problems. Oh, well.

I got four Flip Video cameras through a grant and then bought another one myself. I am really glad to have them because they are so easy to use and really open up a lot of avenues for students to apply technology to a variety of subjects. But, I can already see that having six instead of five would be beneficial. Six would allow the groups to be a little smaller and make it that much easier for each student to participate.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

We have been snowbound since Monday night (Ok, technically it was ice, then sleet, then snow). We haven’t lost power like so many other people have, but this is getting old. We have missed four days of school so the kids will have forgotten everything by the time we get back. I know I have.

Welcome to my Blog!

I’m a rather harried computer teacher who is trying to catch up with all of the new 2.0 toys and trends. Right now I’m working on a Wiki and trying to figure out Animoto. Sometimes it is hard to decide which applications are both fun and educational!
